Larry Elder: Open Letter to Those Who Want to Vote for a Different Candidate to Replace Gavin Newsom: Why Larry Over the Other 46 Candidates

Craig Huey California, Election, Politics 24 Comments

The entire nation is watching the California recall.

But few know about the behind the scenes drama: California voters are being flooded with mailers, videos, social media, e-mails, TV and radio commercials and more viciously attacking Larry Elder.

In fact, I’ve received a lot of e-mails and posts upset about my recommendation of Larry Elder for Governor of California…people upset by lies, distortions and half truths.

That’s why I’ve outlined 6 reasons that show the truth and dispel the myths about this historic election only a few know.

Larry Elder has stirred four groups of vocal opponents:

  1. The biased media
  2. The pro-Socialist Democrats
  3. The Socialist light Republicans (RINO – Republicans in Name Only)
  4. Elder’s conservative opponents’ supporters

All are using misinformation, half-truths and some outright lies.

This is normal in a political campaign. It’s Elder’s opponents distorting, twisting, and exaggerating the truth. That’s politics sadly.

Let me explain six critical reasons that Larry Elder should be your vote if you’re in California, even if you like a different candidate.

And why a vote for the other conservative candidates is a vote for a Democrat or a RINO (Republican in Name Only).

#1: Why Larry Elder over other conservative-oriented candidates? The others will lose…lose big! Let me explain.

In my endorsement at the voter guide “California Recall Election Recommendation,” I also mentioned some of the other good candidates such as Sam Gallucci, John Cox, Anthony Trimino, Jeff Hewitt, and Kevin Kiley.

They have policies or leadership capabilities that are from good to outstanding…maybe better than Larry Elder in some areas.

But none of them have a chance to win.

A vote for them is a vote for a Socialist Democrat or a pro-socialist Republican.

In fact, a vote for them is a vote for following similar policies as Gavin Newsom attacking our values, our freedom, religious liberty, our economy, our schools and our kids.

#2. False Rumors: I have researched all the candidates, and I have researched Larry Elder…and the rumors being promoted – are false.

I know Larry Elder’s stance on all the different issues.

For example, voter fraud.

As one of the nation’s #1 experts on voter fraud, I was on the stage with Larry Elder talking about voter fraud just a month ago and it was all about voter fraud, But still falsehoods are being spread he doesn’t believe in voter fraud. False, he does.

Larry – before, during and after the 2020 election – exposed voter fraud.

Some readers have seen a video clip of him before the Sacramento Bee editorial board where they asked Elder the voter fraud question to distract his message of failed Newsom policies, school choice, no forced mandates, crime and homelessness.

He deflected the question – that is what a smart candidate does to avoid media distraction – like he should have – but people are using it against him as a false, incomplete view of his position.

He was redirecting the question from a “Trump voter fraud” question to keeping the focus on his core issues.

That is a false rumor – one of many.

Other distortions are on marriage (he believes it is an essential institution between a man and women, but never should have been a government-controlled institution). He is vocal in favor of the Christian bakers and florists standing for their religious freedom. He is pro-life. And against church lockdowns.

Many of the reasons that people do not like Larry Elder are false, and a result of distortions that are spreading by e-mail, Facebook, ads and direct mail.

#3. Reality Check! Larry Elder has over twice the support of other candidates, except for pro-socialist candidates that could beat him.

He is running against a well-financed RINO who does not stand for our values, and who will be very much like Arnold Schwarzenegger – (a failed Republican), a candidate who reflects Democrat values: Kevin Faulconer.

The other candidate that is high in the polls is Democrat Kevin Paffrath.

He is a YouTuber who in the opinion polls sometimes is close to catching Larry Elder or ahead.

As a pro-socialist Democrat, he will not protect our rights.

He will not turn California around.

He is a Newsom-light.

#4. Only Larry Elder has the momentum, the money, and the ability to win. The others don’t – it’s political suicide.

Let me give you an example:

Here are the amounts of money that the candidates have:

Larry Elder$9 Million19%
John Cox$8 Million ($7 Million of his own)9%
Kevin Faulconer$2 Million10%
Caitlyn Jenner$900,0003%
Kevin Kiley$900,000Under 3%
Kevin Paffrath$400,000 (But unreported Democrat Support)18%

The other candidates are under 3% and have under $800,000. The polls show…and the money confirms…any other candidate is a vote for Kevin Paffrath, the leading Democrat or RINO Kevin Faulconer.

In other words, Anthony, Sam and other good candidates do not have enough money to get their message across and are not able to create an organization for ballot harvesting and mobilization.

Their efforts are passionate…they love what they are doing…and they have a vision.

But they don’t have the money. And if you don’t have the money, you won’t win.

You don’t have the data. You don’t have the Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) team.

#5. The key to this race and any race – is to have enough money to be able to organize and communicate to your targeted voter.

Without it, it is impossible to win.

Donald Trump was overwhelmed by the money of Hillary Clinton in his first election…very similar to Newsom vs. Elder. Everyone thought he was at such a disadvantage and Trump would lose.

But Trump won. Not because he had no money. But he did have enough money – to be able to organize, communicate, and do what is necessary to win…better than Hillary.

Larry Elder falls way short of the money of Gavin Newsom- but he makes up for it in his ability to draw attention, to communicate, to be able to have a platform, to organize a GOTV, to church ballot harvest, and more.

The other candidates do not have that.

In today’s politics, it’s not policy, it’s not personality, it’s not tv commercials, it’s not radio commercials, it’s not anything like that. For example, Cox and Faulkner are wasting their money based on the false advice of the consultants using marketing – done 30 years ago.

It’s the mobilization of the vote.

It’s called Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV).

It’s organizing people in churches (like Calvary Chapel – Chino Hills), gun shops, and American Legion to do ballot harvesting.

It’s being able to get people to go door to door and to pick up ballots based upon spending the money identifying who your target audience is and using paid staff and volunteers to harvest the vote.

It’s phoning, texting and digital media.

That’s what Newsom is doing. That’s what the Democrats do to win.

And the only Republican close to doing that is Larry Elder. These other candidates are not organizing and mobilizing – only Larry Elder is.

#6. Larry Elder supports our values on 90-95% of the issues.

He is an articulate spokesman for keeping churches open, not wearing masks, not having forced vaccinations, turning the economy around, getting the tax and regulatory burden off the people of California, and restoring the California dream.

He wants to appoint only strict constructionists as judges, stop the out-of-control homelessness, and crime and more.

What he can do for California is amazing – if elected.

Bottom line:

If you vote for one of the other candidates, you are voting for Kevin Faulconer or you are voting for Kevin Paffrath.

It’s that simple.

You are wasting your vote and you are basically allowing this Recall Election to turn out to be a failed election for a pro-Socialist to take Newsom’s place.

For that reason, we are recommending Larry Elder.

I encourage you to tell friends and neighbors to vote for Larry Elder.

What do you think? Let me know at

  1. Californians deserve a governor that’s attentive to OUR state – not China, NOT DC, and NOT Nuisance’s auntie Piglosi!!!! Californians are adult tax payers and voters – we do NOT need a Nanny state!!! Californians need the ability to open the maintain their businesses, to educate their kids, and to LIVE!!!!

  2. How do you know, Craig, that Larry Elder will do what you think he will do? Where is the proof, accomplishments thus far, that lend credence to supporting him? Where is he on same sex marriage and why did he NOT sign the Salt and Light “Families First Pledge” when asked to do so? Politically speaking, he is the “winner” choice; however, he stands below other other Republican/conservative candidates (Kiley and Galluci) on actual accomplishments and ethics.

    1. Larry Elder has made it clear many times that he is a conservative, believes in marriage between one man, one woman, and will guide our state to the golden state it once was. He is the leading candidate and the only one who can win. I don’t know why he didn’t sign the Families First Pledge, and would like an answer to that, but I still think he’s our best change to turn our state around.

    2. I have followed Larry elders column for many years In the newspaper for over a decade or so and his values Have always stood for doing what is right based on conservative Christian values. But even more based on common sense decisions when it comes to the troubling issues of our day.

  3. This article was helpful and timely. I originally was planning to vote for Elder, but was having second thoughts recently only because I didn’t know a lot about the other Conservative candidates. I respect Huey’s research and analysis and will vote for Elder. Thanks

  4. I frankly couldn’t care less about Larry’s opinion of things like same-sex marriage. That ship, unfortunately, sailed with the Supreme Court at the helm. The governor has NO power to negate it. Now get your heads on straight about why Larry Elder WOULD be a great governor:

    1) he’d start vetoing absurd legislative attempts at sanctuary state policies for criminal aliens.
    2) upend the EDD and its massive fraud that gave billions of our dollars to prisoners and other criminals.
    3) moderate our insanely high taxes and regulations that punish success and small business forcing a decline in population that already cost the state a congressional seat.
    4) roll back the ludicrous mandates that have done nothing to diminish the effect of covid 19, and have NO science behind them.
    5) initiate challenges and obstructions to the Marxist teachers’ unions and their evil doctrine of pushing Critical Race Theory, and the hatred of America and the West that it engenders.
    6) start the process of removing homeless drug-addled defecators from our public lands and cleaning up their blight and disease.
    7) end the insane fraud-laden “high speed” train project that has already burned billions of dollars with ZERO to show for it.
    8) finally, finally, finally serve to obstruct a runaway state government of fanatics and hypocrites, the majority of whom have never worked a real honest job in their life nor have the slightest clue of how to make a profit or account for failed policies.

LARRY ELDER is the ONLY candidate with the knowledge, and frankly, the gonads, to call out and block the SOBs that have been wrecking this state for decades. How anyone with even half a brain can consider another candidate reveals only their uninformed perspective or their lack of legitimate concern. There’s no room to give here. It’s Elder and a chance of actual recovery and a future for CA… or it’s Newsom and the Marxist status quo. How much clearer can you get?

  5. I’m of the “Boomer” generation, and have been a resident of California since 8th grade. I am a registered Republican for 40 years. If you must label me, label me an “Evangelical Christian.”

I greatly respect Craig Huey, and always seek his political analysis and insight at voting time.

I appreciate Huey’s “Open Letter” regarding the impending Recall Election. In fact, I concur with his analysis of the liberal media’s assaults & spin against Larry Elder, as well as the realities of how the game of politics (sadly) works.

This said, I am casting my ballot for Anthony Trimino for Governor. NOT because I resonate with his declaration and stance as a follower of Christ (which I do). I am voting for Anthony Trimino because:

    • Trimino’s 20 years marketing experience with Fortune 500 companies (and their movers and shakers) has garnered him the experience and critical skill sets to “read”, dialog with, and influence people.

    • Trimino’s career has engaged people and businesses across a wide canvas: Healthcare/Medical, Technology, Retail, Real Estate, Finance, Education, Government… This experience yields a broad—and integrative—understanding so necessary to governing California’s diverse demographic and economic reality.

    • Trimino can tap into a vast reservoir of pragmatic movers and shakers to place in administrative leadership positions across the board to get California moving again. Real administrators tackling real problems presenting tenable solutions.

    • My Vision: What if the above bullet points actually found their way to Sacramento? Would California be fixed overnight?; assuredly not. But as (Democratic!) President Kennedy once said, “But let us begin.”

I have no illusions about Anthony Trimino’s meager position on the political gameboard. But I ALSO have NO CONFIDENCE that a LARRY ELDER administration would bring us anything more than what we now see: an all-out media assault on Elder (and anything and everything he attempts to do) until the next round of elections next year. All I see in Larry Elder is an administration beset with liberal/socialist harangue that will simply allow them to harvest more soundbites to run ad-nauseum at the next scheduled election against whoever conservatives wish to put forth.

I won’t deny Craig Huey’s “Open Letter” analysis. But if a guy like Anthony Trimino isn’t entrusted with the job, I don’t see California pulling out of its mire be it Elder, RINO, or Democrat.

    1. Hi William,
With all due respect, I must tell you about my experience with Trimino. It was at a Gator Beach Bash on Camp Pendleton this August – a beach party given for those Marines and their families who just returned from deployment. I would have been impressed if he had a booth, or impromptu setup to give food, drink, clothes, baby quilts, ANYTHING to these young heroes and their families who give up so much to protect our freedom. I am sure that Cynthia, founder of Faith Hope and Promise, and the organizer, would have welcomed more help.
What I saw saw Mr. Trimino and two women going from booth to booth to campaign. Trimino, himself said little, and nothing about a platform, campaign promises, or his qualifications. One of the women did most of the talking and she went on and on with reasons to recall Newsom. My friend, a staunch Democrat suggested that this needs to be an apolitical event, yet she continued to talk.
Although Trimino was gracious, my opinion is that Trimino, at least at that event, displayed no leadership skill, and little understanding and appreciation for our military families and the people who support them.

      1. Sharon…

I appreciate your thoughtful response. As a “military brat” (my father was a career USAF pilot: WWII; test pilot; Berlin Airlift; Strategic Air Command), I share your ire of political co-opting of an event intended to honor combat vets. I agree, too, that graciousness alone does not a political leader make.

I stand by my remarks about my skepticism that a Larry Elder administration will likely prove to be a media frenzy and circus. I so tire of the spin and the sparring. California is in serious trouble; it’s time to get to work. What I’ve seen of Anthony Trimino plays to my pragmatic side (my pragmatic “vision”?). But I fully concede that (without a huge war chest to promote his stance) he is largely under the radar of the political debate.

I’ve watched some YouTube’s of Kevin Kiley. I’m impressed with his grasp of the issues confronting our State and his content-rich verbal skills. And unlike Trimino, Kiley certainly has a wealth of political experience and expertise. I think if Kiley were elected to complete Newsom’s remaining year of office, he’s an insider that could very well use the fact of 2022’s upcoming election as a moment of truth on the heals of the Recall to get California’s Assembly down to cases.

I just see Larry Elder’s positions getting swallowed up in rhetoric and soundbites. He may have the “mojo” on his side, but I just don’t think he’ll really achieve much in a year. Too much wind and fury swirl about him.

Again, thanks for weighing in on my earlier post, Sharon, and the remarks you share.

  6. Craig,
Everyone should do their homework. Voting for Larry Elder would be like voting for Newsom Jr. Larry had more money because he takes from special interest groups which means he is obligated to them for paybacks.
Kevin Kiley is the only candidate not taking special interest money. He also wrote the book Recall Newsom. He has fought against Newsom in court and won. He has experience and will begin restore CA as gov on day one (1). The other candates do not have the wisdom and knowledge to be Gov.
Hosea 4:6 states My people perish from a lack of knowledge. Please do your homework like reviewing the three debates for CA Gov, which a Larry Elder did not participate. Who we have no idea how he would have answered the questions the Gov candidates had to repo d too.
Everyone can go back to view the CA debates to see how great a candidate Kevin Kiley is. In fact he won all three debates!!!

  7. Craig, I agree with much of what you said, one more point is this is not for a 4 year term, correct? If people don’t like him after the year, they can vote in who they want instead. Also, he was here in Ramona last week and I hoped he would show the video of his “Clipped” soundbite about the Biden winning… blah blah blah. He should share the lengthier version if that was the case. I was very disappointed that he would only take 3 questions at the event, gave the impression that he is just like any other politician… doesn’t really want to hear us.
    just saying…

  8. Craig,
I think that Larry better get busy pushing his agenda if he expects to win. He needs to do something to help the people to believe in all he says.

  9. Is it True: If one candidate does not get 51% of the vote, this recall will be a set back for our Free Agency to choose for ourselves. Also, we will have all the forced mandates till the next election.
Our Governor has had 12 Billion this year to spend on the Homeless population- What has he done to date, to show for ? If he spent 1 Billion on our Veterans housing, we would not see them outside the Veterans property in tents in Brentwood, CA. We have too much Administration waste for too many decades.

  10. Outstanding analysis. Craig, if you haven’t done so already, is it appropriate for you to inform the other semi-front running Republican candidates of the political suicide of conservatives splitting the vote? If so, does their ego (or whatever) get in the way so they refuse to see this reality? The wake up call will be too late post-election if the Democrat Paffrath wins if we split the vote. So Cox, Kiley, Faulkner, face this reality now, and admit we all need to rally around the front runner Elder, and for the remainder of folks who have not yet voted. Otherwise we will have the remaining year of Newsom’s term rebranded in Paffrath.
