Unspeakable tragedy struck 3 military families in the early morning hours of December 6th…
A Saudi Arabian national – a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Saudi Air Force who was attending pilot training and English language school at Pensacola Naval Air Station – entered the base and killed 3 soldiers and wounded 8 others before he was killed by Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies.
Media reporting of this shooting – especially the life-saving heroics of recent Naval Academy graduate Joshua Watson – has been spotty due to its obsession with covering the impeachment of President Trump.
Here are 8 little-reported facts you should know about this mass shooting:
1. The shooting was premeditated and planned.
The night before the attack, the shooter hosted a dinner party at which he and 3 other Saudi students watched videos of other mass shootings in the U.S.
2. The shooter was a Muslim extremist who hated the U.S.
Prior to the attack, he posted a justification of his actions on Twitter:
- He complained about U.S. wars in Muslim countries.
- He wrote of his hatred for the American people.
- He criticized U.S. support for Israel.
- He quoted anti-American rhetoric from Osama bin Laden.
3. Other Saudi students knew about the attack ahead of time but did nothing to prevent it.
The outside of the classroom building where the attack occurred was filmed by another Saudi student…
Two additional Saudi students watched the shooting from a parked car.
They had to have known ahead of time that the attack was going to take place in order to be at the classroom building early that morning.
4. Navy Ensign Joshua Watson saved many lives by his act of heroism.
Ensign Watson was on watch duty at the entrance of the classroom building where the mass shooting took place.
He was shot at least 5 times as the gunman entered the building…
Despite being fatally wounded, Watson managed to exit the building and give the first response team a description of the shooter … and his location in the building.
His actions allowed the county sheriff’s deputies to engage the shooter and neutralize him more quickly than they otherwise could have.
5. Naval personnel are not allowed to carry firearms on base.
Ensign Watson was an expert marksman from his training at the Naval Academy.
Had he been allowed to carry a firearm while he was assigned to watch duty for the classroom building, he could have engaged the shooter … and perhaps saved his own life as well as the lives of the other who were shot and killed.
6. The media is downplaying the radical Islamic background of the shooter.
One network news media host described the gunman as “very religious” without mentioning his religious affiliation.
Political advisor and activist Gary Bauer responded to the misleading characterization by saying:
“I’m very religious. Mike Pence is very religious. There are a lot of very religious Christians and Orthodox Jews in the country. None of them are committing mass murders. It would be far more accurate to describe the jihadist as ‘very Islamic.’”
7. The FBI is categorizing the mass shooting as a terrorist attack.
A Saudi government analysis has revealed that the shooter appeared to embrace radical Islamic ideology as early as 2015 – two years before he entered the U.S. as an international aviation student.
Another investigation has been opened by Defense Secretary Mark Esper to examine the vetting procedures for accepting foreign nationals into the U.S. to train with our military.
In response, Gary Bauer wrote:
“Now some are suggesting we should take a serious look at this program and put more of these foreign students under surveillance. Are Norwegian students a threat? I don’t think so. We know who the likely threats are. We need to do a better of job of screening out the Islamists.”
8. Progressive politicians don’t really care about the victims of gun violence … or about ending gun violence.
Usually after a mass shooting, the politicians call for more gun regulations … the banning of certain firearms … and an end to gun violence.
But not this time…
Why?
Is it because the gunman was a Muslim from Saudi Arabia – not a U.S. citizen?
Or is it because all they care about anymore is impeaching President Trump?
Their silence is deafening … and very revealing about their true priorities.
Once again, Gary Bauer asks: “Did Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Reps. Adam Schiff or Jerry Nadler get up this morning thinking about the Watson family? In my opinion, there aren’t many issues more important than addressing what happened to their son. But that’s not what is motivating the progressive left today.”
