To all the dads out there… I have a special song that meant a lot to me when I was a kid… and I think it’ll mean a lot to you.
In middle school, my parents and I watched a TV show called The Donna Reed Show.
On that show, in season 5, episode 6, the son, played by Paul Peterson, sang a song that truly resonated with me about my dad.
As many of you know, I was adopted. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t thank God for giving me the parents he did… and for the birth mother who gave me up for adoption.
And while my dad was not perfect, he was great.
In that show, Peterson sang “My Dad” to his TV dad, Carl Betz.
The song hit #2 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, #6 on the U.S. Pop Chart, and #19 on the U.S. R&B Chart.
I thought the song represented how I felt about my dad at that young age.
Take a listen.
For those with a dad who’s still alive, you might want to send the song to him.
