The political left – the progressive activists and politicians – often talk about the importance of tolerance…
They like to point out how intolerant … how bigoted … evangelical Christians are.
But the secular progressives would do well to examine and eliminate their own intolerance before accusing and criticizing another group for the same flaw.
Unfortunately, it’s the nature of God-denying progressives to be intolerant of all others who don’t agree with 100% of their political and social agenda.
For example … consider the evangelical Christians who are also progressive or socialistic in their political views…
Not long ago, these evangelical progressives still agreed with God’s word on things such as:
- Marriage is between one man and one woman
- Sanctity of life
- Religious liberty
Between 2010 and 2016, many of these Christian progressives changed their positions on moral and social issues. They became:
- Same-sex marriage is okay
- Abortion is a woman’s right
- Anti-religious liberty
Yet in spite of this shift, the secular anti-God progressives are still antagonistic to all people of faith – even to those who share most of their progressive ideology.
Melissa Rogers – former President Obama’s faith advisor – would like to see the antagonism end…
She recently criticized people on the political left for writing off and refusing to work with people of faith who share some progressive views … but who don’t subscribe to a complete “progressive package of policies.”
Other Obama faith advisors have been very critical of Democratic discrimination against people of faith as well…
On the other hand, probably the most blatant examples of discrimination against the faith community were the statements by Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign … and the fact that she:
- Refused to attend any evangelical conference to which she was invited
- Refused to be interviewed by Christianity Today … or any other Christian publication
- Refused to have any other type of outreach to evangelicals
And then there’s Tom Perez – chairman of the Democratic National Committee – who recently made a statement implying that pro-life people should not be welcome in the Democratic Party.
And so the war by true-blue progressives against progressive people of faith continues…
We shouldn’t be surprised … since Jesus warned of this kind of opposition when He said, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34)
