Jack Smith: Corrupt, Partisan, Deep State Persecution Cost Taxpayers $50 Million—Why He Needs Legal Consequences to Prevent Future Abuse—4 Things Every American Should Know

Huey ReportDOJ, Donald Trump, Lawfare, Political Persecution, Taxation

Jack Smith is gone.

But the damage he caused remains.

Special Counsel Jack Smith’s partisan Deep State prosecutions against Donald Trump cost taxpayers a staggering $50 million.

He weaponized his position to attack Donald Trump during a presidential campaign.

It was legal warfare – or “lawfare” – overreach, and political bias like we’ve never seen before.

His actions have been a textbook example of government overreach and abuse of power.

It’s clear that Smith must face the consequences of his actions and corruption…

But will he?

Here are 4 things every American must know:

  1. Who IS Jack Smith, and how has he abused power?

Jack Smith was a long-time federal prosecutor with a controversial track record of abuse of power. He drew national scrutiny for his “lawfare” handling of cases against Donald Trump.

As a Special Counsel appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022, Smith launched two high-profile prosecutions against the former president.

These prosecutions cost taxpayers over $50 million.

His approach to litigation was legally unsound and overtly political.

After Trump was reelected in 2024, Smith dropped all charges and resigned from the Justice Department in January 2025 before the inauguration.

Examples of overreach:

Smith pursued Trump with charges of conspiracy and mishandling of so-called classified documents that many legal experts deemed dubious.

Legal and ethical failures:

Smith’s prosecution tactics included bringing charges under conspiracy statutes, which many view as weaponizing the law. His actions were costly, and damaged public trust in the Department of Justice (DOJ).

His retirement from the DOJ shouldn’t absolve him of responsibility — or of responsibility for those under his command.

Although Smith said he would drop the two felony cases against Trump, he dismissed the cases without prejudice after Trump won re-election.

That means that when Trump leaves office, the DOJ can refile them.

  1. Why legal consequences are necessary

Smith’s actions represent more than just partisan posturing—they are an abuse of power that must be deterred to protect the justice system’s integrity.

Setting a precedent:

Allowing prosecutors like Smith to manipulate the law for political ends without repercussions invites future abuses. Accountability is crucial to restoring public confidence in institutions like the DOJ.

Potential charges against Smith:

Jack Smith should be prosecuted under federal laws prohibiting conspiracies to violate civil rights (18 U.S.C. § 241). Such action would send a clear message that weaponizing the justice system for political purposes will not be tolerated.

Mike Howell of the Heritage Oversight Project emphasized the importance of legal, political, and financial consequences for Smith and his team for their “blatant lawfare and election interference.”

Accountability could include:

  • criminal investigations
  • disbarment for any lawyers who knowingly pursue unsound prosecutions
  1. Will President Trump take action?

President Trump commented about the Smith lawfare on Truth Social, saying:

“These cases, like all of the other cases I have been forced to go through, are empty and lawless and should never have been brought. Over $100 million dollars of taxpayer dollars has been wasted in the Democrat Party’s fight against their political opponent, ME. Nothing like this has ever happened in our country before. It was a political hijacking and a low point in the history of our country that such a thing could have happened, and yet, I persevered, against all odds, and WON. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

  1. Will the DOJ or Congress take action?

The DOJ could investigate Smith regarding his abuse of power in filing conspiracy charges against Trump after he left office, and in filing charges of mishandling so-called “classified” documents that President Trump had declassified.

The legislative branch also has a role to play in addressing the misconduct of Smith and his team.

Jack Smith’s misuse of both taxpayer dollars and legal authority underscores the urgent need for accountability. If these abuses go unchecked, they will set a dangerous precedent that could haunt our nation for generations. The time to act is now.

Holding him accountable isn’t just about justice for Donald Trump—it’s about protecting the rule of law for all Americans.

The integrity of our nation depends on it.
