1.) Harris Campaign Posts TikTok On Walz, Underscoring How It Plans To Utilize His Personal Biography.
The first TikTok video since Vice President Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate shows the tone and strategy ahead.
The 21-second post features Walz drawing a contrast with his GOP counterpart, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.
“People like JD Vance know nothing about small-town America. It’s not about hate. It’s not about collapsing in. The golden rule there is ‘mind your own damn business.’ Their policies are what destroyed rural America. They’ve divided us,” Walz said.
2.) Big Changes Between Biden And Harris For Voter Turnout
Percentages among people of color who say they are “almost certain” to vote in November have risen sharply since Harris became the Democrat Presidential pick (Black people from 53% to 62% and Hispanic people from 46% to 59%).
The change in Democratic presidential nominees activated Democratic identifiers (from 61% “almost certain” to vote to 72%) and those who said they were voting for the Democratic presidential candidate (from 65% when Biden was the likely nominee to 70% when Harris became the likely nominee).
Potential Harris voters are now more likely to say they are “almost certain” to vote than are potential Trump voters (70% to 65%)
3.) Political Ad Spending Skyrocketing
There has been $272.2 million spent on political advertising over the last two weeks.
The biggest ad spending totals of the past two weeks were in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a swing state, where $16.3 million was spent on ad buys, and in Phoenix, Arizona, $12.3 million.
Vice President Kamala Harris spent $20.8 million on her campaign in the past two weeks, outspending every other candidate for office. Pro-Harris Democratic Party-aligned super PAC Future Forward USA ranked second, with $16.4 million in spending.
The Future Forward PAC has been ramping up pro-Harris spending in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada, with $32.9 million in additional ad buys placed.
The super PAC backing former President Trump, MAGA Inc., came in third, with $14.3 million in spending.
MAGA Inc.’s pro-Trump ad schedule has $20.9 million in new ad placements in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
The Harris campaign raised $310 million in July, bringing its total to over $1 billion. Two-thirds of the July total came from first-time donors; the majority was raised from $200 or less donations.
Trump raised $137 million after outraising Biden in June. Trump entered August with $327 million cash on hand vs. $377 million for Harris.
Ad spending at this point in the election cycle totaled $2.97 billion in 2020. AdImpact says it has tracked $3.64 billion in political spending this year.
And AdImpact has revised its political ad spending projections upwards from $10.2 billion to a predicted record-breaking $10.69 billion. It would be a 19% increase from the $9.02 billion spent during the 2020 cycle.
4.) Harris And The Catholic Vote
CatholicVote president Brian Burch said, “Kamala Harris represents the most vile anti-Catholic threat of any leading candidate for president in American History. She is a candidate of the hard left. And her record and her words demonstrate a gross anti-Catholic bias and bigotry.”
He cites a few examples: Harris’ 2018 questioning of then-federal judge nominee Brian Buescher. Harris vilified Buescher’s membership in the Knights of Columbus (KOC), the Catholic fraternal organization.
Harris asked Buescher, “Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a woman’s right to choose when you joined the organization? Did you agree with Mr. Carl Anderson that abortion is ‘the killing of the innocent on a massive scale?’ Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed marriage equality when you joined the organization?”
Also…
- Harris was a 100% score with Planned Parenthood.
- As California’s Attorney General, Harris, got a law passed requiring pro-life pregnancy centers to promote abortion that was later struck down as unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Harris introduced the “Do Not Harm” Act, which would essentially destroy the 1983 Religious Freedom Restoration Act, protecting churches and Christians. If passed, it would require doctors and other health professionals to “violate their consciences” and perform abortion and transgender surgeries.
Catholics backed George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004, then backed Obama in 2008 and again in 2012.
In 2016, Catholics voted for Donald Trump by 52% -44%.
In 2020, the Catholic vote was a statistical dead heat: 49% for Biden and 50% for Trump.
5.) Planned Parenthood To Spend $40 Million On 2024 Election
Planned Parenthood announced they will spend $40 million during the 2024 election cycle.
Planned Parenthood is targeting eight swing states and three other states.
These swing states are Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, and Virginia.
The three non-swing states on Planned Parenthood’s list are Montana – the site of a key Senate race – as well as New Hampshire and New York, which both have competitive down-ballot races.
6.) 2024 Campaign Slogans
I’ve won 112 marketing awards for my ad agency. For the campaigns, I often create a tagline or slogan. Slogans can change. But here are the current ones being used:
Donald Trump Slogans
- “Make America Great Again!”
- “I was indicted for you!”
- “Fight, Fight, Fight!”
Kamala Harris Slogans
- “Together, we can win this!”
- “When We Fight, We Win.”
- “We are not going back.”
