Are Christians Losing Their Biblical Worldview? Why Many Are Confused, Many Churches Avoid Difficult Issues and What One Bible Teacher Says the Answer Is

Huey ReportBible, Christianity, God's Word, The Huey Alert Podcast

▶ Key Takeaways
  • A biblical worldview is not developed through occasional inspirational messages—it is built by understanding the whole counsel of God’s Word.
  • Expository Bible teaching, which studies Scripture chapter by chapter and verse by verse, helps Christians understand the Bible in its proper context and apply it to everyday life.
  • Many believers struggle with today’s moral, cultural, and political issues because they have never been taught the entire Bible systematically.
  • A strong biblical worldview influences every area of life, including marriage, family, the sanctity of life, religious liberty, economics, government, and personal responsibility.
  • Topical preaching can encourage believers, but regular verse-by-verse teaching helps ensure that difficult passages and challenging subjects are not overlooked.
  • David Guzik’s Bible teaching ministry has helped millions of Christians worldwide better understand Scripture through clear, practical, and faithful biblical exposition.
  • The Enduring Word Study Bible was created to help ordinary Christians understand the meaning, context, and practical application of God’s Word while reading through the Bible.
  • Every Christian can grow spiritually by consistently reading Scripture, studying it in context, and allowing God’s Word to shape how they think and live.
  • In a culture increasingly hostile to biblical truth, Christians need a firm foundation in Scripture more than ever before.
  • This week’s Huey Alert Podcast provides practical encouragement for every believer who wants to deepen their faith and develop a stronger biblical worldview.

A Christian businessman told me recently:
“I know what I believe about Jesus. But I honestly don’t know what the Bible teaches about many of today’s biggest issues.”

He’s not alone.

Millions of Christians attend church every week…

  • They love the Lord.
  • They pray.
  • They give.
  • They serve.

But ask them difficult questions about economics, marriage, life, sexuality, socialism, religious liberty, or even how to interpret difficult Bible passages…

And many struggle to answer.

Why?

According to Bible teacher David Guzik, the answer may be surprisingly simple:
Many Christians have never been taught the whole Bible… only portions of it.

Not Genesis to Revelation. Not chapter by chapter. Not verse by verse.

Instead, they’ve heard:

  • Selected topics.
  • Favorite passages.
  • Inspirational messages.

But they haven’t received what the Apostle Paul called:
“The whole counsel of God.”

And that’s a problem.

Because a biblical worldview isn’t formed by hearing occasional sermons.

It’s formed by understanding how God thinks.

It’s formed by knowing what Scripture says—not just about heaven—but about life.

The Great Disconnect

As I look at America today, I see an increasing disconnect.

Many professing Christians are confused on issues where the Bible speaks clearly.

Churches are divided.

Young people are leaving the faith.

And many believers feel unequipped to explain or defend what they believe.

Why?

David Guzik believes one reason is that many churches have moved away from expository preaching—the practice of teaching the Bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse.

When I interviewed David for the Huey Alert Podcast, he explained it this way:
“God gave us His Word chapter by chapter, book by book, verse by verse.”

In other words:
The Bible wasn’t given as a collection of inspirational quotes.

It was given as God’s revelation.

And when believers understand Scripture in context, they begin to think God’s thoughts after Him.

That’s what creates a biblical worldview.

Why This Matters More Than Ever

Think about the major debates happening today:

  • The sanctity of life.
  • Marriage and family.
  • Religious liberty.
  • The role of government.
  • Economic freedom.
  • Personal responsibility.
  • The value of truth.

The Bible speaks to all of these.

For example, David pointed out something fascinating.

The commandment:
“You shall not steal.”

Seems simple.

But think about what it implies.

If something can be stolen…

Then someone owns it.

Which means the Bible recognizes personal property and personal responsibility.

That single principle has implications for economics, freedom, and the role of government.

That’s what a biblical worldview does.

It doesn’t just shape what you memorize.

It shapes how you think.

The Danger of Avoiding Difficult Topics

One of the most insightful parts of my conversation with David was his warning about topical preaching.

Topical sermons can be wonderful.

Inspirational messages have their place.

But there is a danger.

If pastors choose only topics they’re comfortable discussing…

They may unintentionally avoid:

  • Difficult passages.
  • Controversial issues.
  • Challenging truths.

But if a pastor teaches verse by verse through Scripture…

He can’t skip what God says.

He must address:

  • Life.
  • Marriage.
  • Sin.
  • Forgiveness.
  • Money.
  • Prophecy.
  • Sexual ethics.
  • Government.
  • Justice.
  • Grace.
  • Everything.

David put it simply:
“If you’re going verse by verse through the Bible, you’re going to run into what God has to say.”

And perhaps that’s exactly what the church needs today.

From Unknown Pastor to Millions of Readers

David Guzik didn’t set out to become one of the world’s most-used Bible teachers.

In the mid-1990s, he mailed his teaching notes to a tiny ministry called Blue Letter Bible.

He assumed dozens of pastors would do the same.

Instead…
When he finally looked online, he saw something shocking.

His Bible commentary appeared alongside giants like Chuck Smith, Matthew Henry, and Chuck Missler.

David said he was embarrassed.

He almost asked them to remove it.

Instead…

God used it.

Today his Bible commentaries, podcasts, and teaching resources are used by millions of people around the world every month.

And now his life’s work has been condensed into a new resource:

The Enduring Word Study Bible.

A Bible Study Tool for Ordinary Christians

One thing I appreciate about David’s teaching is that he isn’t trying to impress people.

He’s trying to help them.

He explains difficult passages clearly.

He gives context.

He explains history.

He points to practical application.

You don’t need to know Greek.

You don’t need a seminary degree.

You don’t need to be a scholar.

You simply need a desire to know God’s Word.

And perhaps that’s the greatest need in America today.

Not more opinions.

Not more political arguments.

Not more outrage.

We need Christians who know the Bible.

Who understand God’s truth.

Who can think biblically.

Who can lovingly stand firm and speak the truth in love.

And who can pass that faith to their children and grandchildren.

FAQs:

Q: Are Christians losing their biblical worldview?
A: Many Christians today struggle to apply biblical principles to today’s moral, cultural, and political issues because they have never studied the Bible systematically. A biblical worldview is developed by understanding the whole counsel of God, not just selected passages.

Q: What is expository Bible teaching?
A: Expository teaching explains Scripture chapter by chapter, verse by verse, allowing the meaning of the biblical text to determine the message. Rather than focusing primarily on selected topics, it teaches the entire context of God’s Word.

Q: Why is expository preaching important?
A: Verse-by-verse Bible teaching helps believers understand difficult passages, builds a stronger biblical foundation, reduces confusion, and equips Christians to apply Scripture to everyday life and today’s cultural challenges.

Q: How does a biblical worldview affect everyday life?
A: A biblical worldview influences how Christians think about marriage, family, the sanctity of life, religious liberty, economics, justice, personal responsibility, government, and every area of life.

Q: Why are many churches moving away from expository preaching?
A: Many churches emphasize topical messages because they address immediate concerns or current events. While topical preaching can be valuable, relying on it exclusively may leave important biblical teachings unexplored and can result in believers having an incomplete understanding of Scripture.

Q: What is the Enduring Word Study Bible?
A: The Enduring Word Study Bible combines David Guzik’s widely used Bible commentary with Scripture to help readers understand biblical context, practical application, and difficult passages while reading through the Bible.

Q: Why should Christians study the entire Bible?
A: Reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation helps believers understand God’s overall plan of redemption, recognize how individual passages fit together, avoid taking verses out of context, and develop a mature Christian worldview.

Q: What is the main message of this podcast?
A: Craig Huey and David Guzik discuss why Christians need a strong biblical worldview, the importance of expository Bible teaching, how Scripture applies to today’s cultural issues, and practical ways every believer can grow deeper in God’s Word.
