The Flood, Faith, Summer Camps and the Fight for Truth: Should You Send a Kid to Camp (Our Answer May Surprise You)

Huey ReportChristianity, Current Events, Faith, Family

Tears.

Tragedy.

And targeted hatred.

That’s the sad reality of the flood that tore through Texas—devastating a beloved Christian children’s camp and much more… and shaking families to the core.

The water rose 26 feet in an hour, destroying children’s cabins, washing away counselors and kids, and igniting a spiritual war across America.

In this week’s free Huey Alert podcast, Shelly and I confront what really happened—and what it means for the church, for parents, and grandparents, and for the nation.

This wasn’t just a natural disaster.

It became a platform for political opportunists to smear faith and attack Christian camps.

The media blamed:
•   “Climate change”
•   Trump’s “cuts to the National Weather Service”
•   Texas for not having sirens

Others blamed… the children.

Viral social posts mocked the campers for being white, Christian, and “privileged.”

What we saw wasn’t just hate—it was spiritual warfare.

In the podcast, we talk about:
•   The truth about God’s sovereignty and Satan’s dominion
•   Why tragedies like this don’t surprise God—and how He’s still present in every storm
•   The heartbreaking reality of grief—and how Jesus meets each parent in the pain

Many are hurting because of this tragedy and need hope.

Tavia Hunt, wife of Kansas City Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, posted that their family lost a young cousin. She wrote:

“If your heart is broken, I assure you God is near, he is gentle with your wounds. And he is still worthy, even when your soul is struggling to believe it. Trust doesn’t mean you’re over the pain; it means you’re handing it to the only One who can hold it with love and restore what was lost. For we do not grieve as those without hope.”

We also speak directly to parents and grandparents in the podcast:
•   Should you send your kids to Christian camps anymore?
•   What about the fear that this tragedy creates?
•   How do you trust God when He doesn’t stop the flood?

Shelly and I have decades of experience with Christian camps—both leading and sending our own kids.

And we explain why we believe camps are still one of the greatest spiritual tools for shaping lives.

At the end, Shelly offers a powerful, Spirit-filled prayer declaring that the enemy will not win.

That the same area that was flooded with grief will be flooded with revival.

If your heart is heavy—
If your faith is shaken—
If you want answers the media won’t give…
