Who is Bonhoeffer?
Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was a German theologian, pastor, and anti-Nazi dissident who was executed for his role in the deadly plot to assassinate Hitler.
The film, by Angel Studios, is based on the true story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a man who preached love while opposing the evils of the Nazi (National Socialist German Workers’) Party and antisemitism.
Daigle was deeply inspired to write the song after reading Bonhoeffer’s book, The Cost of Discipleship. The story really hit her in a “deep and profound way.”
“When I was approached about joining the project, I immediately said yes,” she said. “Bonhoeffer had unwavering faith, and his commitment to stand up for the vulnerable and speak truth in the face of evil is a challenge to everyone. Are we willing to die for our neighbor?”
