Editor’s Note: Next week, I’ll have an article and podcast on things you have not heard about the assassination of Charlie Kirk—but need to. This article is what I wanted to write with grief… and still the joy that Charlie would want.

A Martyr for Faith and Freedom

Charlie Kirk is being remembered not just as a conservative leader, but as a Christian martyr and American patriot.

Shelly and I saw Charlie and his team in California only a couple weeks ago, at the pastors’ conference he sponsored. This week I was scheduled to meet him again—and possibly have him on our podcast—at another conference we planned to attend.

Now… he’s gone. His death is unsettling. Disturbing. Wrong.

A Climate of Hostility

Christians and conservatives have been mocked, threatened, even physically attacked on college campuses and in public forums.

Shelly and I know the hostility firsthand. When I spoke in Venice, California, about supporting Israel, the entire room erupted—not in shouts, but in hissing. Security insisted we leave with them for our safety.

This is not the America we grew up with. Yet this is the America Charlie stood against—with courage and clarity.

Defender of Free Speech

Charlie was one of the boldest defenders of the First Amendment. He believed in protecting free speech because he knew freedom itself depends on it.

And when evil tried to silence him, God had other plans. As Joseph declared in Genesis 50:20: ‘You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good…’

And as Romans 8:28 reminds us: ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ What man intends for destruction, God transforms into destiny.

A Gospel Legacy

Charlie’s message was bigger than politics. Yes, he fought DEI excesses. He exposed the radical transgender agenda. He stood for free enterprise and against socialism. But at the center of it all was Christ.

Charlie never ended an event without pointing to the cross of Jesus Christ. To forgiveness of sins. To salvation. To revival.

Now, because of his death, millions who never heard his message before are hearing it. His words are spreading across campuses, churches, and communities. His bold witness for Christ is echoing louder than ever.

From Tragedy to Revival

I believe Charlie’s death will spark something greater than we can imagine. It will lead to salvation. It will fuel revival. It will bring young men and women—who never thought about God before—to fall to their knees and call on His name.

I don’t understand all of this. The grief is real. The tears are many. But one thing I know: Charlie’s movement is stronger than ever.

His legacy will outlive the bullets. His gospel-centered mission will transform generations.
