Power Politics: Abandoning Integrity at the Ballot Box – 7 Facts about Election Integrity You Should Know

Huey Report2026 Election, Election Integrity, Radical Socialism, SAVE America Act, Voter ID

▶ Key Takeaways
  • Integrity has been sadly lacking in many of America’s recent elections.
  • A photo ID requirement when voting – supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans – would go a long way toward reducing voter fraud and improving election integrity.
  • Democrat politicians overwhelmingly reject any type of voter ID requirement when registering to vote or when voting – even though their constituents favor it.
  • The SAVE America Act – requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote, and proof of ID when voting – passed the House but is stalled in the Senate.
  • Radical pro-socialist Democrats and most media influencers lie about the SAVE America Act and mischaracterize it as an attempt by the Trump administration to suppress low-income, black and elderly votes.
  • Significant voter fraud has been uncovered by the DOJ and the DHS in both the 2020 and 2024 elections – even though Democrats and media pundits have consistently denied that it exists.
  • A Census Bureau brief stated that more than 24,000 noncitizens voted in the 2020 federal election.
  • Individual state election laws and regulations vary widely.
  • You can access your state’s election policies and compare your state’s election integrity “score” via an Election Integrity Scorecard published by the Heritage Foundation.

If you’re worried about election integrity, you should be.

What is integrity?

Honesty. Truthfulness.

Doing the right thing even when it’s hard.

Adhering strictly to moral, ethical values… even when no one is watching.

Integrity is sadly absent in much of modern American politics…

Especially in our elections.

Why?

Lust for political power.

It may be the strongest lust there is.

It causes pro-socialist Democratic politicians not only to abandon their moral compass, but to figuratively stomp on it and destroy it.

It causes them to desire control of the federal government so much that they vehemently:

  • Oppose any kind of voter ID requirement
  • Insist that voter fraud doesn’t exist despite overwhelming evidence that it does
  • Advocate allowing noncitizens to vote in state and national elections – even though this violates federal and state laws

Lord Acton – an English Catholic historian – wrote in an 1877 letter to an Anglican bishop:

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”[1]

If election integrity no longer exists, moral citizens will stop voting.

They will conclude that their vote is meaningless.

If non-citizens flout our laws and vote when it is unlawful to do so, we will lose our country to those who wish to destroy it.

Here are 7 facts you should know about election integrity:

1. American citizens overwhelmingly favor a voter ID requirement.

The statistics aren’t even close.

Since 2016, approximately 80% of American citizens have favored a voter ID law – a requirement to show a photo ID when voting or registering to vote.

Gallup’s website confirms this in poll after poll.[2]

Pew Research has found the same thing.[3]

Fox News agrees.[4]

Even CBS agrees.[5]

Here are the latest percentages of those who favor requiring a photo ID when voting:

  • White Americans – 85%
  • Latino Americans – 82%
  • Black Americans – 76%[6]

Voters are either mandated or requested to show ID to vote in 36 states.[7]

The other 14 states – plus the District of Columbia – have no ID requirement to vote.

2. Republicans favor a voter ID requirement.

The House passed the SAVE America Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) in February of this year.

One Democrat joined 217 Republicans to pass the legislation by a 218 – 213 vote.

The key provisions of the Act:

  • Documentary proof of U.S. citizenship required for voter registration for federal elections. A variety of methods of proof are allowed, including for name changes due to marriage.
  • Nationwide photo ID requirement for voting in federal elections.
  • Voters must submit a copy of an approved photo ID when requesting an absentee ballot and when returning it.
  • States must take steps to ensure only U.S. citizens are on registered voter rolls. States are required to share voter rolls with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
  • Directs the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to issue implementation guidance quickly.
  • Expands criminal penalties for violations of the Act – including for election officers who register voter applicants without required proof of citizenship.

While this election integrity legislation passed in the House, it is stalled in the Senate because Republicans don’t have the 60-seat majority required to overcome the Democrat filibuster.

3. Democrats overwhelmingly reject any kind of voter ID requirement.

Democrats argue that imposing any kind of requirement on voters amounts to voter suppression.

They cite hypothetical examples of eligible voters who are not already registered to vote and who may not have convenient access to proof of citizenship documentation:

  • Low-income citizens
  • Minority citizens
  • Elderly voters
  • Married women whose proof of citizenship documents have a different last name

These are not specific examples of Democrat voters who might be disenfranchised by the SAVE America Act.

The examples apply equally to potential Republican voters.

And the SAVE America Act makes allowances in what qualifies as proof of citizenship.

Why don’t the media – or conservative Republicans – point these things out?

Conservative voices regarding election integrity are silenced – or overpowered – by the shrill rhetoric of the biased traditional media… which cheerleads for the radical pro-socialist Democrats.

Michigan Democrat Senator Elissa Slotkin lied about the SAVE America Act at Democrat Party’s Indiana state convention.

She said the legislation would literally allow this administration to rig our democracy so that it would be hard for any Democrat in any state to win any election, um, and disenfranchise all married women in the meantime, by the way, and just, uh, you’d have to show your birth certificate at the polls if you have a married name.”[8]

She knew these words were untrue when she uttered them.

Deliberate mischaracterization like this is directed not just at those present at an event.

They are directed at the American people.

4. Pro-socialist Democrats and media influencers are opposed to voter ID and to election integrity.

One of the biggest obstacles to improving election integrity is the inaccuracy of state voter registration lists.

Nobody knows how many deceased voters are still on their state’s voter registration roll.

Nobody knows how many noncitizens were added to voter registration rolls during the Obama and the Biden administrations.

Nobody knows how many American citizens are on the registration rolls of more than one state because they have moved.

Pro-socialist Democrats and media influencers are opposed to matching voter registration rolls with the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security databases to eliminate deceased and noncitizen names.

Traditional news media and social media influencers are also opposed to a voter ID requirement.

They amplify all of the doomsday scenarios of the Democrats, and suppress the logical reasoning of conservatives and Republicans.

Leftist media organizations joined with labor unions, LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, pro-abortion groups and left-leaning election-focused organizations to lobby against the SAVE America Act.

A total of 26 groups protested and lobbied against the bill.

Among them were:

  • The AFL-CIO
  • Communications Workers of America
  • American Federation of Teachers
  • National Education Association
  • National Nurses United
  • American Library Association
  • Common Cause
  • Human Rights Campaign
  • Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
  • League of Conservation Voters
  • National Council of Jewish Women
  • Network Lobby for Catholic Social Justice
  • Young Women’s Christian Association

The media also toots the Democrat horn that voter ID is not necessary because voter fraud is virtually non-existent.

5. Voter fraud is a bigger problem than you are being told.

NOTE: The numbers quoted in this section may seem insignificant compared to the 158 million votes cast in 2020 or the 155 million in 2024. However, the voter fraud outlined here may only be the tip of the iceberg. And the Trump administration is doing more to prosecute and eliminate voter fraud and improve election integrity than any president in U.S. history.

Also consider that in 2020, the vote difference in Arizona was only 10,457, and the vote difference in Georgia was only 12,670.[9]

The Democrats and their media cheerleaders tell us that voter fraud is practically non-existent because non-citizen voting in federal elections is already illegal.

However, the Justice Department (DOJ) just arrested more 200 individuals for voter fraud.[10]

This doesn’t mean that only 200 people voted illegally…

Voter fraud includes:

  • Voting multiple times in the same election – once by mail, once in person… or twice in mail and twice in person if the voter has changed addresses.
  • Voting for deceased citizens who have received mail-in ballots.
  • Registering noncitizens to vote by offering free food in parks and homeless shelters.
  • Ballot harvesting from elderly voters and filling out their ballots for them.
  • Postal employees discarding mail-in ballots from targeted neighborhoods.
  • Noncitizens claiming to be citizens and voting.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon recently said on the TV program Just the News, No Noise:

“I think there are a lot of nervous election officials because I think some of them know that they’ve been looking the other way when this is happening, and we’re catching it all over the country.”

“What we care about is that noncitizens who voted in a federal election canceled out the votes of American citizens. It does happen. It happens a lot more than anybody says.[11]

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin says his agency is investigating 1,620 cases of voter fraud involving noncitizens and has made 151 arrests. He said his department is also looking into an additional 300,000 cases based on states’ voter rolls.[12]

In New Jersey, 6,600 noncitizens were registered to vote in the 2024 presidential election… presumably because of a “software error” in the programming of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill was quick to point out that according to her state’s “preliminary analysis,” fewer than 400 of the illegally registered voters actually voted in 2024.[13]

Assistant AG Harmeet Dhillon is skeptical…

“I’m not sure we have the correct numbers from New Jersey. They’re not really cooperating with us, and so we will get to the bottom of what happened there…I think there’ll be another side to that story.”[14]

She suggested her department has developed evidence calling into question New Jersey’s explanation of the Motor Vehicle computer glitch.

A Census Bureau brief stated that more than 24,000 noncitizens voted in the 2020 federal election.[15]

The brief gave the following illegal voter breakdown:

  • 3,800 were from Mexico
  • 950 were from Canada
  • Nearly 7,000 reported no country of origin[16]

In California, 4,300 noncitizens cast votes in 2020; In Texas, the noncitizen vote totaled 2,500.[17]

The brief also noted that it could only say it had “high confidence” that 128 million out of 160 million votes cast in the 2020 election were cast by U.S. citizens… leaving 32 million votes still to be analyzed.

Here’s one more incredible example of how anyone can commit voter fraud using the current mail-in voting system…

Several years ago, when I was doing research for my book The Deep State, one of my staff members conducted an experiment involving the online voter registration system.

He filled out a registration form using the name of a dog at our office address.

A ballot was later mailed for that registration for two elections.

Even after my office relocated from California to Tennessee, the ballot followed the new address for more elections.

Think about how easily something like this can happen when voter registration can be done online with no ID or proof of citizenship required.

6. Know your state’s voter registration requirements and election laws… and federal voter registration law.

The National Voter Registration Act of1993 (a.k.a. the “NVRA” or the “motor voter law”) requires states to offer voter registration at:

  • State motor vehicle agencies (Section 5)
  • State public assistance and disability offices (Section 7)
  • Other state and local offices (Section 7)
  • By mail-in application (Section 6)[18]

Six states are exempt from the NVRA because when the law took effect on August 1, 1994, they either had no voter registration requirement, or they had election-day voter registration at polling places for federal elections.

The exempt states are:

  • Idaho
  • Minnesota
  • New Hampshire
  • North Dakota
  • Wisconsin
  • Hawaii

Twenty-four states plus the District of Columbia offer automatic voter registration (AVR) at their motor vehicle agencies and at their other participating offices – unless the customer specifically requests to opt out.[19]

Here is a list of the states that automatically register people to vote when they do any business – online or in person – at their DMV, with their food stamp or SNAP program, or at any other government assistance office:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Nevada
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • West Virginia

State laws vary widely regarding citizenship requirements… and questions asked on voter registration forms.

There are also wide discrepancies across states and among election officials within states regarding the enforcement of state registration requirements and state election laws.

The Heritage Foundation has published an Election Integrity Scorecard which compares the election laws and regulations of each state and the District of Columbia.[20]

The states and Washington, D.C. are ranked from 1 to 51 according to the quality of the election integrity provided by 15 separate metrics examining their laws and enforcement policies.

The metrics range from voter ID implementation to Ranked Choice Voting and restriction of foreign funding for state ballot measures.

You can click on your state in the chart to see how your state scores on each of the 15 election metrics.

According to the Scorecard, Tennessee has the highest level of election integrity; Hawaii has the lowest election integrity.

The top 5 states with the most honest elections:

  • Tennessee
  • Arkansas
  • Alabama
  • Louisiana
  • Florida

The 5 states with the most dishonest election laws:

  • Washington (46th)
  • Nevada (46th – tie)
  • Oregon (48th)
  • Vermont (48th – tie)
  • California (50th)
  • Hawaii (51st)

7. Why election integrity is important.

In 1797, during his presidential inaugural address, John Adams said, “…we should be unfaithful to ourselves if we should ever lose sight of the danger to our liberties if anything partial or extraneous should infect the purity of our free, fair, virtuous, and independent elections.”[21]

Every citizen’s vote is sacred.

Elections are how we guarantee that our government remains “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

We need and deserve elections that we can trust and have confidence in the final results.

This means having a secure and transparent system in which fraud can be easily detected, and where false allegations can be dispelled with hard evidence.

Citizens should be able to vote with the knowledge that their vote will not be lost, stolen, altered, or negated by a vote cast by an illegitimate voter.

Election laws should be strongly enforced by state authorities to deter election crimes or fraudulent activity.

FAQs:

Q: What is the definition of integrity?
A: Honesty, truthfulness, doing the right thing even when it’s hard, and strictly adhering to moral and ethical values even when no one is watching.

Q: What does integrity have to do with U.S. elections?
A: Election integrity has been lacking in recent U.S. elections due to a lust for political power, particularly among pro-socialist Democratic politicians. They oppose voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements, deny or downplay voter fraud (especially noncitizen voting), which erodes public trust in our democratic foundations.

Q: Does the public support a voter ID requirement?
A: Approximately 80% of Americans have favored a photo ID requirement for voting or registering since 2016. Latest polls show 85% of white Americans, 82% of Latino Americans and 76% of Black Americans support showing a photo ID when voting.

Q: What is the SAVE America Act?
A: The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act requires (1) documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register for federal elections (with allowances for name changes); (2) a photo ID requirement to vote in federal elections; (3) copy of approved photo ID required when requesting and returning absentee ballots; (4) states must ensure only U.S. citizens are on voter rolls and share rolls with DHS; (5) EAC guidance for implementation and expanded criminal penalties (including for election officials).

Q: Why do Democrats and media oppose voter ID/the SAVE America Act?
A: Democrats call it voter suppression that would disproportionately harm low-income, minority, elderly, and married women voters (whose documents may show different names).

Q: Does voter fraud really exist when noncitizen voting is against federal law?
A: Yes, voter fraud exists and is worse than anyone thinks. The Trump administration is doing more to uncover and prosecute voter fraud than any administration in history.

Q: What is the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA / “Motor Voter Law”)?
A: The 1993 law requires most states to offer voter registration at motor vehicle agencies, public assistance/disability offices, other designated offices, and by mail. Six states are exempt, which either had no registration requirement or election-day registration as of August 1, 1994.

Q: What is Automatic Voter Registration (AVR), and how many states allow it?
A: AVR automatically registers people to vote when they interact with DMVs or with certain government assistance offices – unless they specifically opt out.

Q: What is the Heritage Foundation Election Integrity Scorecard, and how does it calculate a rank for each state?
A: The Election Integrity Scorecard compares 15 metrics related to state election laws, requirements, policies and enforcement measures, and gives each state and the District of Columbia a ranking from 1 to 51based on their combined integrity score.

Q: Why does election integrity matter?
A: Citizens need confidence that their vote will not be lost, stolen, altered, or canceled by illegitimate votes. Fair and free-of-fraud elections are essential to liberty and a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
